80% of pains are caused by muscle exhaustion, sudden movements, repetitive stress disorders or old injuries. The reasons are often muscle stiffness, atrophy or ligament disorder. In case patients experience pains such as backache, headache, shoulderache, and other types of physical pain, in oriental medicine, we can cure these patients unless they suffer from organic diseases. Western methods such as injections, operations, and pain relievers do not cure the cause of pain. They simply remove the pain. Often, once the patient stops the western medicine treatment or the medicine wears out, the pain comes back worse than before the treatment. Pain is the body’s way to prevent us from using our muscles, ligaments and tendons in order to avoid further aggravation. It relieves the pain temporarily but only acts as an inhibitor, creating the illusion that the affected area is healed and therefore risks aggravating the ailment. Aside from surgery, there are several ways to treat back pain. Suck as drugs, compress, corset, stretching, and so on. However, they are ineffective against muscle stiffness and muscle balance disorders which are the cause of 80% of back pains. Herniated disks happen when the disk protrudes and presses against a nerve. We believe that it is caused by muscle imbalance (biophylaxis) and improper body movements due to pain. Over time, this leads to further back pain, numbness of legs, edema and so on. In turn, herniated disks cause the body to move improperly which leads to pain. It’s a vicious cycle.
